This Week in Second Grade:
The second graders and teachers have been enjoying getting to know each other. We welcome our two new students, Adeline and Catz, with open arms to our class! They are such kind and delightful girls who are great additions to our second grade student body!
During our first three days of school, we have been working hard to establish the routines, procedures, and the "ways of" our second grade classroom as well as sharing the learning expectations that we have for our young second graders. We created our "Ivy Nook Pledge" and all of the students have taken the "oath" promising to try his/her best to follow the pledge that we drafted together. The students completed a few "self" projects in order to jazz up and personalize our room for all of us to enjoy.
Our read aloud books included: Chrysanthemum, Those Shoes, Being a Social Detective, and The Kingdom with No Rules, Laws or a King.
Beginning next week the students will be assessed in their reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. We use these assessments to inform our teaching in order to meet the needs of all our students. Assessments may be ongoing for 2-3 weeks.
It is evident that collectively our whole "second grade family" is thrilled to embark on this great adventure together!
