This Week in Second Grade:
In summary, here is what we have been working on in the second grade class:
Reading/Writing/Spelling
- Reading Workshop/Independent Reading: practice reading independently at appropriate level. Teacher/student conferencing about reading; fluency check-ins
- Reading Journal: Recording book titles and making journal entries
- Read Aloud: The Trumpet of the Swan (We finished the book!)
- Writing Workshop -Continuing through the writing process, moving through and stretching a small moment (on paper, acting it out, and helping the reader "feel" what you intend them to feel); Peer conferencing; About the Author - writing in 3rd Person; Publishing: front cover, back cover with blurb, dedication page, Copyright page
- Descriptive writing: paying attention to our senses to write descriptively; Using editing marks
- Lexia (*Though students do login into and practice Lexia each week in class, we recommend that students practice 60 -80 minutes a week. Please ask your second grader to do Lexia practice at home at least twice a week.)

- In preparation for next week's class, the students should read the next t story in their "Friendship" story packet. The students are encouraged to think about and write questions about Miss Maggie.
