Multicultural Day:
The second graders enjoyed a fun afternoon on Wednesday exploring and experiencing several cultures represented by students at our school. Please look at the gallery for pictures.
Canned Food Drive:
Next week begins our annual Canned Food Drive. Please help us collect non-perishable food items to donate to the food bank! The food drive will end on Friday, November 22.
Grandparents and Special Friends Harvest Tea:
We are anticipating a special morning with the students' grandparents or special friends on Friday morning. If your child will not have a special guest coming, please let us know so we can arrange for him/her to "buddy up" with a friend. We will be performing our play for our guests and then we will enjoy a lovely tea with them.
Winter Holidays and Traditions:
We would like to invite any parents who would like to present their family's traditions/customs of celebration during the winter holiday season (Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or other winter holiday). Please contact Mrs. Ford and Mr. Rogers to schedule a time to come into the second grade class.

- Reading Workshop/Independent Reading: practice reading independently at appropriate level. Teacher/student conferencing about reading; fluency check-ins
- Reading Journal: Recording book titles and making journal entries
- Read Aloud: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
- Writing Workshop -Continuing through the writing process; using editing marks; using dialogue; Author Share
- Descriptive writing: paying attention to our senses to write descriptivel, "how does an author 'grab' the reader?"
- Lexia (*Though students do login into and practice Lexia each week in class, we recommend that students practice 60 -80 minutes a week. Please ask your second grader to do Lexia practice at home at least twice a week.)
