In summary, here is what we have been working on in the second grade class:
Reading/Writing/Spelling
Literature Discussion With Mrs. Peiken:
Continued discussion and reading of Anancy and Dog and Puss And Friendship . Students received their new literature packets and have been asked to read the first story in preparation for Mr.s Peiken's next literature discussion class. Students are encouraged to share their ideas, ask questions, and make connections.
Singapore Math
Social Cognition and Toolbox:
- Salvation Army Family Adoption Gifts- Last day of collection: Friday, December 13
- Pajama Day: Friday, December 13 (Students may wear their pajamas and bring a small stuffed animal, pillow, and a blanket. We will have restful afternoon as we know the students will need to their energy for their performance that night.)
- Winter Holiday Performance: Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 (2nd graders should wear their "holiday finest" for their holiday performances.)
- Winter Class Party - Friday, December 20 (2:00 - 3:00 PM)
- Winter Break - December 21 - January 5
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Monday, January 20

In summary, here is what we have been working on in the second grade class:
Reading/Writing/Spelling
- Reading Workshop/Independent Reading: practice reading independently at "just right" level. Teacher/student conferencing about reading; "thinking about reading" leads to understanding, making connections, and enjoyment; discovering new vocabulary
- Reading Journal: Recording book titles and making journal entries
- Friendly Letter Writing to Super Star
- Read Aloud: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
- Browsing Box- Holiday books
- Writing Workshop -Continuing through the writing process to wrap up "Small Moment" stories
- Words Their Way: Short O words (CVC pattern) and Long O words (CVCe and CVVC patterns and Words which do not follow the rules)
- Lexia (*Though students do login into and practice Lexia each week in class, we recommend that students practice 60 -80 minutes a week. Please ask your second grader to do Lexia practice at home at least twice a week.)
