Literature Discussion With Mrs. Peiken:
Mrs. Peiken would like to continue the discussion of Anancy and Dog and Puss And Friendship in their literature packet. Students are encouraged to read the story again and to be prepared to share their ideas, ask questions, and make connections.

- Winter Performance rehearsal: Monday, December 9 (8:30 - 11:00 AM) &
- Thursday, December 12 (8:30 AM - 2:30 PM)
- *Students should wear their Stevenson PE clothes/Sweats in layers)
- Pajama Day: Friday, December 13 (Students may wear their pajamas and bring a small stuffed animal, pillow, and a blanket. We will have restful afternoon as we know the students will need to their energy for their performance that night.)

In summary, here is what we have been working on in the second grade class:
Reading/Writing/Spelling
- Reading Workshop/Independent Reading: practice reading independently at appropriate level. Teacher/student conferencing about reading; "thinking about reading" leads to understanding, making connections, and enjoyment; discovering new vocabulary
- Reading Journal: Recording book titles and making journal entries
- Friendly Letter Writing to Super Star
- Read Aloud: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
- Browsing Box- Holiday books
- Writing Workshop -Continuing through the writing process; using editing marks; using dialogue; Author Share
- Words Their Way: Short a words (CVC pattern) and Long a words (CVCe and CVVC patterns and "Oddball" words)
- Lexia (*Though students do login into and practice Lexia each week in class, we recommend that students practice 60 -80 minutes a week. Please ask your second grader to do Lexia practice at home at least twice a week.)
